In case you haven’t heard, Pope Benedict is abdicating. The media is using the term resigning, technically that is incorrect. The 85-year-old pontiff has decided his advanced age and his “lack of strength” make him unable to fulfill his ministry of being the Holy Father.
May God guide Him and the college of Cardinals in the coming days and weeks. Benedict’s papacy was brief in comparison to that of his predecessor, Blessed Pope John Paul II, but incredibly rich. In it, he oversaw the Pauline Year and the beginning of the Year of Faith. He joined the digital age via twitter. And he continued to guide the church through the uncertain times of later. May God Bless Our Wonderful Pope Benedict XVI now and always.
